Writing useful emails
What makes a good B2B email subject line?
A useful subject tells the recipient what the message concerns. Keep it specific, honest, and consistent with the body. False reply prefixes, fake urgency, and vague personal hooks may attract attention while damaging trust. Judge subjects by the conversations they support, not by opens alone.
How to approach it
- Name the relevant process or business topic.
- Remove claims that the email does not support.
- Compare subjects only across similar audiences.
“Service requests across locations” gives context for an operational question. “Re: your urgent request” would misrepresent a first contact when the recipient has made no request.
