Prospect research

Should I buy a B2B email list?

Treat a purchased list as unverified information, not as proof of permission or fit. Ask where the addresses came from, when they were checked, what rights accompany their use, and how opt-outs are handled. If the supplier cannot provide meaningful evidence, the list can create more cleanup and risk than useful opportunities.

How to approach it

  1. Request source, freshness, and permitted-use documentation.
  2. Check a small sample against your target profile.
  3. Reject records whose contact basis you cannot support.
Illustrative example

A vendor’s “verified” label may refer only to technical deliverability. It does not show that the contact has the right role, wants your offer, or can lawfully receive your message.
