Prospect research

What should I research before contacting a business?

Research enough to explain why the business might care about your offer. Look at what it sells, who it serves, how it operates, and any public change relevant to your service. Save the evidence behind your observation. Avoid collecting personal details that do not help explain professional relevance.

How to approach it

  1. Read the company’s own service and about pages.
  2. Verify the specific fact you plan to mention.
  3. Separate known facts from questions you still need to ask.
Illustrative example

A website showing multiple service locations supports “I saw you operate across several locations.” It does not support “Your team is struggling with coordination” unless the company has actually said so.
